Who We Are

Why Waypoint?

A waypoint is a reference point that helps us understand where we are and where we are going.

In practical terms, a waypoint is a place along a journey — somewhere travellers can pause, find their bearings, rest, and even change direction before continuing. It is not the final destination, but it helps guide the way.

We believe this is a meaningful picture of both the Christian life and the purpose of the local church.

A Place to Find Direction

Throughout the Bible, God’s people marked moments and places where they encountered Him. Altars, wells, and memorial stones were established as reminders of God’s faithfulness, provision, and presence.

These places were never the destination themselves — they were reference points. They helped people remember what God had done, recognise where He was leading, and continue their journey of faith.

As Waypoint Church, our desire is to be a place that does the same: helping people find direction, discover hope, and ultimately point them towards Jesus.

We seek to be a church:

  • Where Jesus is proclaimed as Lord
  • Where the Word of God is faithfully preached and taught
  • Where God is worshipped in Spirit and in truth
  • Where genuine friendship, community, and care are shared
  • Where lives are transformed through the gospel and the work of the Holy Spirit
  • Where everyone is welcomed as we love and serve our local community

The name Waypoint reflects our heart to be a church that is accessible, welcoming, and outward-looking — connecting with people wherever they are on life’s journey.

Whether someone has followed Jesus for many years, is exploring faith for the first time, or simply has questions about life and purpose, we want Waypoint to be a place where they feel welcome.

Our name reminds us of our calling: to help people find their bearings, discover God’s love, and journey towards the hope found in Jesus Christ.

Our Mission

Assemblies of God is totally committed to: “Give every man, woman and child the opportunity of understanding the gospel and to provide a church where they can grow in ministry for the glory of God.

Our vision is for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon His Church as experienced in the book of Acts. As a church we believe God has laid this burden upon our hearts and we are actively seeking God for the ‘sound of rain’.

We are persuaded that a revival is the answer, not just for Parkstone but for the whole country. It is the power of the Holy Spirit through His church that will impact the hearts of men and women, convincing, convicting and saving for His Kingdom.

From the Leadership Team

At Waypoint Church, our Leadership Team—Alastair McGregor, John Vatcher, and David Williams—are committed to serving and strengthening the life of the fellowship. Together, we seek to lead with humility, faith, and a shared desire to see people grow in their relationship with God.

Our heart is to provide consistent ministry, encouragement, and pastoral support across the church community. This takes shape through preaching and teaching God’s Word, engaging in Bible study, prioritising prayer, and cultivating meaningful times of praise and worship.

As a team, we value unity, authenticity, and a dependence on God as we lead and serve together.

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly… as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom.
Colossians 3:1
